Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, during the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi of the Bhadrapada month, as per the Hindu lunar calendar. Concluding with the grand Ganesh Visarjan on 28, August 28.
The significance of Ganesh Visarjan
- A temporary visit: The ritual signifies that Lord Ganesha's stay on Earth during the festival is a temporary visit.
- The cycle of life: Immersing the clay idol reminds devotees of the cycle of birth, life, and death. Just as the idol was created from the earth, it returns to the earth.
- Remover of obstacles: Devotees believe that when the idol is immersed, Ganesha takes away all the troubles and obstacles of his followers with him.
- Spiritual growth: For many, the act represents a spiritual letting go of worldly attachments. The deity, who is formless, is invoked into an object, and then ceremoniously returned to the formless state.
- A promise to return: As the idol is immersed, devotees chant prayers like "Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudchya Varshi Lavkarya," which means, "Oh Lord Ganesha, come back again soon next year".
